[DMWN #15] - Here's a cover letter template that has granted me and two friends an interview

Hi guys, I trust you last week/weekend was great!

I don’t even know what to say, and I don’t want to give any excuses 🥲. But, I’m still trying my best to remain consistent.

I apologize for sending this letter a day late.

Here’s what I have for you today:

What I did last week(s) 😇

1. Yesterday, a friend (a Game developer) reached out to me and testified of how my cover letter format granted him an interview. This is the second testimony, as a friend before (a Developer Advocate) gave the same testimony. This format has also helped me so I shared it here: Cover Letter Template for your next job 💪🏽

2. My first article on Strapi got published: How to Build an Ecommerce Application using React, MongoDB, Strapi & Socket.io. You should check it out. I showed how to enable bi-directional communication with the frontend and backend.

3. I had an interview with a Start-up that reached out to me to write articles for them. I’m particularly happy about this because even if the contract doesn’t work, “someone reached out to me to write for them”. I feel so proud that my content gains me recognition

4. I came across a full-time technical writing role, and applied, and had the “audacity” to tell the recruiter as much as I love the role, I’d want them to consider something part-time or just pay-per-article. It’s my energy for me tbh 😅. My fingers are crossed to the outcome of the application : )

5. I’m making efforts to become a Developer Advocate 🚀. I believe that would be a great next line of career to pursue.

Featured Tools 🛠

1. npm-watch: Using npm-watch, you can run scripts in your package.json when specific file changes. An example of this is running the test script when you change a .spec file.

2. Import Cost: VSCode extension that writes the size of an imported package on the same line of the import statement. This helps you assess how heavy packages are, and you know heavy packages can affect compile/build time.

Useful hacks/tips ✨

1. If you make changes to a branch and you aren’t ready to commit it yet and you also want to checkout another branch, you can stash those changes. Here’s how:

   git stash

   This will save those changes on the branch, and you can check out another branch. When you’re back to continue your work on the branch, you can pop those changes:

   git stash pop

   Now, you can continue until you’re ready to commit those changes. Here’s more information: git stash - Saving Changes
